Large Trash Day

Friday, July 20

That's when we get to leave out the big stuff. Save the date on your calendar, or include OrangeNH in your Google Calendar.  You'll find it here.

There will be a regular trash pickup on that day. The bulky items get picked up in a separate truck on the same day.

We'll remind you when the day approaches.

Don't Burn!

The risk of a brush fire is high, according to state and local fire officials. If you don't want to risk fines and a possible lawsuit from an angry, burned-out neighbor, wait for later spring before you burn.

Here's a good site to follow daily fire danger.

You'll find information on permits and regulations here.

March 15 Board Minutes

Sandi Pierson sent us the minutes for the March 15 Selectboard meeting. You can find them here

Highlights:

Liaison positions: After discussion, the Board members accepted ex-officio positions to the following boards and committees:

  • Planning Board: Betty Fulton
  • ZBA: Dorothy Heinrichs
  • Budget Committee: Linda Giner
  • Document Retention Committee: Dorothy Heinrichs
  • Conservation Commission: Dorothy Heinrichs

FEMA: The Board received correspondence from Mike Poirier and attached information re: $55,605.90 reimbursement to the town for disaster 4026.  The correspondence noted that the money will be electronically transferred into the town’s account. Attached to the correspondence was the Project Completion and Certification Report which will be returned to Mr. Poirier after the projects are deemed completed.  Linda will review the information to determine specifically what areas of reconstruction the money is targeted for and if it is a partial payment.

Annual appointments:

  • Brent Stevens as Emergency Management Director.
  • Don Pfaefflin as Deputy Emergency Management Director.
  • Don Pfaefflin as health officer and building inspector.

Other:

  • Sandi to draft a letter to the Hardy Snowmobile Club permitting them to make improvements and repairs to the Class VI roads specific to amended Article 13 of the 2012 warrant.

 Public comment:

  • George White stated that he felt the Schedule of Town Property as listed in the town report did not accurately reflect all of the equipment belonging to the highway department. Sandi said she obtained the dollar amount from what value is insured.
  • Scott Sanborn suggested contacting the vital statistics office to inquire what other offices in town can use the internet service they provide. (Currently it serves the Select Board’s office, town clerk, and Supervisors’ computers.) Sophie Seace will follow up.

Who's Chairing the Board?

We asked Selectboard Secretary Sandi Pierson to update us on the Board chairmanship. With Henry Minasian, the former Chair, now off the Board, who is taking on the duties? All three Board members, it turns out.

Sandi:

For the first time in Orange history, and only the second time in New Hampshire history, the town’s Selectboard is composed entirely of selectwomen.  Rather than following the tradition of having a single chair moderate the twice-monthly meetings, your new Selectboard has chosen to have that responsibility rotate among the three Selectboard members.  Linda Giner chaired the organizational meeting on March 15th, Dorothy Heinrichs chaired the March 26th meeting and Betty Fulton will chair the April 10th meeting.   Other responsibilities of the chair will be divided among the board.

The board is working to gather information on all the various responsibilities of the board and other town positions in one place.  If you have served in a town office before, the board would love to hear from you.

Feeling a Lot Like Christmas

Barbara Smith just sent us some great pictures of the Town House Christmas tree.  Given the weather we've been having, we wouldn't be surprised to see Santa on our rooftop tonight. Or a hula dancer. It could go either way.

You can see the photos in the Orange Scenes within the Photo Albums page.

If you have pictures, send them directly to webmaster@orangenh.US.  No pictures are too unseasonal!
