Orange News

Sandi Pierson reminds us that the Select Board will meet Wednesday, October 14, instead of Tuesday. The Mascoma School Board will be holding its monthly meeting in the Town House today, beginning at 6 PM.
Sandi also notes that Harvest Festival is this Sunday, sponsored by the Orange Scholarship Committee. They are still in need of water and juice boxes; if you can help out please call Jenna McAlister at 523-4920, or email her at jennamcalister@yahoo.com.

Finally, we heard some complaints about the Speedway over the weekend, and will convey them to the manager. He's been coming up to gauge the noise level, and seems genuinely concerned about being a good neighbor. Still, no question: this past weekend was the loudest yet.

Special Select Board Meetings

The Orange Select Board is holding two special meetings, today (Friday), at 4pm; and Monday, October 12, at 5pm. The reason is to work on the MS-5, the financial form every town is required to fill out for the state. The Board will also be considering whether to have an independent firm conduct a financial audit. And "any other business."

Also today: If you want to change your party affiliation in time for the presidential primary, you need to do it in the Town House between 7pm and 7:30pm, October 30.  (Apparently, this itty-bitty slot is mandated by the state.)

Minutes, Festival

Sandi Pierson sent us the official Select Board minutes of September 8. You'll find them here.

She also reminds us that the Orange Harvest Festival is Sunday, October 18. The Orange Harvest Festival is non-municipal event sponsored by the Orange Scholarship Committee which in turn annually supports our graduating seniors.

The Festival Committee is seeking donations of drinks, baked goods, and hot foods. For a detailed list of what is needed, contact Jenna McAlister at jennamcalister@yahoo.com or 523-4920.

Property Assessment Update

Sandi just sent this:
In a day or so you will have received your notice from Avitar regarding your new assessment. Information about viewing your 2015 assessment online and scheduling an appointment (should you feel it necessary) is included in the letter. If you want to view your data but are having trouble navigating the Avitar website, please feel free to give me a call here at the office (523-7054); I'm generally here on Monday and Friday mornings.
They also mention in the letter a publication titled "Understanding Your Avitar Assessment Card." Here's a link to the PDF: Assessing Property Card.
