Sandi Discovers the Shores of Orange

In the town of Victory, Vermont (pop. 63), Town Explorer Sandi Pierson came across a cemetary at the end of an old tote road. There she found a gravestone with an "Orange Shores," born in 1863. We hope one of our residents names their next kid Orange, so Vermont doesn't hold a monopoly on the name.

Scroll down for the photo.

Meanwhile, here are the approved Select Board minutes from November 26.

And let us know if you have pictures from the Christmas Party. Pauline and Nathaniel Emerson are getting raves for their bear story.

December Clerk Hours

Sophie Seace reports that Friday, December 20, is the last date the Town Clerk office will be open. Her hours will be 9-11. The office will be closed on Christmas and New Year's. The normal schedule resumes January 4. As always, we will update the Google Calendar. Just check the link whenever you have any questions about Town office hours, trash pickups, and the like.

Sandi with the News

Sandi Pierson sent us this news roundup while submitting the minutes. (You'll find them here.)

Sunny greetings to all! Winter has come and gone and we're back in Autumn! What wonderful, varied weather November brings! Got the wood in?

Sharon was delighted that the Select Board presented her with the tax warrant before November 1st and the Board hopes to make this an annual target. Sharon has been our tax collector for 26 years (and aren't we lucky!!!) and never before has she gotten the warrant in October.

Be sure to mark your calendar, if you haven't already, that the Orange Christmas party is scheduled for December 8. Also note that because the 4th Tuesday in December falls on Christmas Eve, the Select Board's second meeting in December will be Monday, December 16. (The Planning Board meets on Tuesday the 17th--right on the full moon, could get spooky.)

A reminder that I am always looking for quality, Orange-related photos for the town report. Both historical and contemporary photos are welcome. These can be sent by email or I can scan hard copies.

I was speaking to Pat Mercer recently who relayed to me that our friend Ed Saulen is up and about and feeling well.  Wonderful to hear that!

Lastly, Saturday I had to go to the new DHMC Heater Road facility (doctors' offices). What a delight to find a broad wall chock full of Gary Hamel paintings in the first floor waiting room. They are panels similiar to those at the Town House. The background of the panels are historical newspaper pages and on each panel is a beautiful portrait of a farm animal-- according to the narration, most from Orange. The farm critters were SO realistically done that it appears they are coming right out of the panel. If you've got a moment to spare in the Lebanon area, I urge you to pop in for a look-see. Good job, Gary.

Have a great weekend,
