Wind Power Science

Dr. Ben Luce, a professor of physics and chair of the Sustainability Studies program at Lyndon State College, is giving a talk tonight (January 18) on "a scientific case against the development of Industrial wind power on mountain ridgelines in New Hampshire."

Dr. Luce previously served as the director of the New Mexico Coalition for Clean Affordable Energy, and he supported wind power and other renewable energy sources.

The talk begins 7 p.m. at Newfound Regional High School in Bristol. The public is invited.

And don't forget, the discussion board is open to anyone who wants to advocate or oppose wind farms in our area.

Notes from Last Night's Meeting

Here are Dorothy Heinrichs's informal notes of the Select Board meeting, unvetted and unapproved by the Board. We'll post the minutes when they get them, as usual. Meanwhile, feel free to comment or post on the discussion board.

Bob Proulx came to discuss the annual budget process and timeline for meetings leading up to Town Meeting.

The budget committee and Selectboard will meet jointly on Tuesday, January 15 th to discuss the budget.

At the  Selectboard's regularly scheduled January 22nd meeting, the board will review a first draft of articles for the warrant.

Later this month the Town Clerk will post the filing deadline and list of positions for those wishing to run for town office.

Election Day will be Tuesday, March 12 with our annual Town Meeting and town potluck to be held on Wednesday, March 13.

The board reviewed a contract from the Upper Valley Humane Society. The question of how to deal with rogue animals in the absence of a town animal control officer has come up repeatedly through the year. Rather than commit the Town to a potentially costly contract, it was decided to put the issue before the townspeople in the form of a warrant article.

The Selectboard voted to appoint Sandi Pierson as a full member if the Conservation Commission.

The board accepted Sharon Dunbar's resignation as a Supervisor of the Checklist with regret. The two remaining supervisors may appoint a temporary replacement until the position is filled on election day.

The board approved the $203 spent by our tax collector Sharon Proulx, when a computer glitch wiped out her hard drive. Thankfully, all data was retrieved and Sharon is working on creating a triple back up system.

The board voted unanimously to accept the 2012 Welfare Guidelines written by the towns' attorney last year as the 2013 guidelines with no changes.

The Conservation Commission hopes to bring world renowned bear biologist (and our Lyme neighbor) Ben Kilhham to town for a presentation on living with bears as our neighbors. We'll post information on this site when we get details.
