The Town Election Heats Up

It looked right down to the wire as if no one was going to run for Select Board to fill the seat of outgoing Selectman Dorothy Heinrichs in next month's election. But we're told that Pat Mercer has filed. She'll be the only candidate on the ballot. Don Pfaefflin has also agreed to run, as a write-in candidate. The winner will be expected to serve a three-year term. And that appears to be the only contested election.

Other Orangeites have stepped up to run uncontested for town offices:

Town Clerk: Sophie Seace. Treasurer: Henry Minasian. Tax Collector: Sharon Proulx. Deeding Agent: Sharon Proulx. Road Agent: Scott Sanborn. Cemetary Agent: Edward Saulen. Overseer of Public Welfare: Pat Mercer. Budget Committee: Bob Proulx. Supervisor of the Checklist: Beth DiFrancesco. Planning Board Member: Judith Lindahl. Planning Board Member (two seats are open): George White. 

Four Town offices have no one on the ballot. Danny Hazelton has agreed to be a write-in candidate for Town Moderator. And the ballot will remain blank for Cemetery Trustee, Trustee of Trust Funds, and School Budget Committee Member.

We haven't received confirmation of the ballot and candidates. Please comment if you see any errors of omission or commission.

Also, no one seems to have filed for Auditor, and we don't know of any write-in candidates.

Town meeting is Wednesday, March 12. And mark your calendar for the potluck ahead of time. Bring a dish to the Town Hall at 5 pm. The meeting begins at 7.

Have You Seen This Dog?

A brown and white springer spaniel named Winston went missing yesterday, February 2, on Jerusalem Road. He is a neutered, microchipped male with his name and phone number on the collar. If you see him, call the owner, Amy Hall, at 523-7299 or 254-8641.

Who's Running?

On Tuesday, March 11, the citizens of Orange will elect 16 town officers (see below). So far it looks like there are open slots for Selectman, Cemetary Trustee, Trustee of Trust Funds, and School Budget Committee.

If you wish to run for office, you must file with Town Clerk Sophie Seace to have your name placed on the ballot.  The filing period runs from Wednesday, January 22 through 5 p.m. Friday, January 31. Sophie has regular Town Clerk hours in the Town House on Wednesday, January 29, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sophie will also be at the Town House on Friday, January 31, from 3 to 5 p.m. to accept last minute filings. Or you may make other arrangements with Sophie (523-7679 or 306-1356) or Deputy Town Clerk Pat White (523-7344).
