The Price of Education

Our Town's share of the Mascoma School District's fiscal year 2011-2012 payment totals $426,653.00. All the more reason to have your say at the School Board Meetings.

The deadline for petitioned warrant articles is 5 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, at the SAU office.
The School District Budget Committee is holding a public hearing to discuss the next fiscal year's budget at 6 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, in the Mascoma High School library.  (See the Orange Calendar for all town events.)  That's followed by a School Board bond hearing five days later: 6 p.m. Monday, January 16, same place. (A snow date has been set for the following day at the Canaan Elementary School.)
The School Board will hold its first deliberative session 9 a.m. Saturday, February 4, at the Indian River School.

Cardigan State Forest Gets an Addition

Sandi Pierson, secretary to the Board of Selectmen, sent us this from the minutes of a recent meeting:

Mount Cardigan State Forest:  Dorothy stated that Norco has conveyed 257 acres (Map 4, Lot 15) to the State of New Hampshire and this land is now part of Mount Cardigan State Forest. This acreage is on the
summit and eastern slope of Hoyt Mountain and includes the Hoyt mine. It is contiguous with state forest land having frontage on Burnt Hill Road.
