Mica Madness!

Saturday, May 5, is Green-Up Day, when we pick up roadside trash.  Later that morning comes Mica Madness--a tour of one of the largest Orange mica mines with Town Historian Gary Hamel and Dartmouth Geology Prof Leslie Sonder. For more details, click here. The event is organized by the Orange Town Conservation Commission.

Feel free to print out the poster and put it up where people can see it! (Click on the thumbnail at left.)

Betty Fulton Wins Select Board

The big Orange election news last night was Betty Fulton's win over Select Board Chairman Henry Minasian. Betty got 104 votes over Henry's 44.  She also won an uncontested election for Trustee of Trust Funds--a position she'll have to give up for her Select Board post. Congratulations, Betty.

In the only other contested election, Scott Sanborn beat Frank Giner for Road Agent; the vote was 100 to 37.

The other elections were uncontested. Sophie Seace becomes our new Town Clerk.

Meanwhile, voters rejected a proposed $24 million bond for the Macoma Valley School District's renovation project. The plan required 60% approval, but only 56% voted yes.

Town Report

Sandi Pierson sent the whole report to us, so you can read it online before Town Meeting. Don't forget: Election Day on Tuesday, March 13! Polls open at 11 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.  Town Meeting takes place the following day--Wednesday, March 14.  The meeting begins at 7 p.m., with the traditional potluck supper before that.

You can read the report here. Be patient if you have dialup; it's a big file.
